Balloon Tag

A game of tag where players tie balloons around their ankles and try to stomp others' balloons.
Materials
Balloons (one for each person) and string/dental floss
How To Play
Each player gets a balloon and a piece of string. Before starting players must blow up their balloon and tie one end of the string (string is no longer than 1 ft) to their ankle and the other end to the balloon.

The facilitator makes sure that players know the confined area they have to stay in. When the facilitator says go, players must try to pop other player's balloons by only using their feet.

When a player has his or her balloon popped, he or she must exit the playing field. The last one remaining their their balloon is the winner.

Something that can be helpful is to decrease the playing field size as more players are eliminated.

We are going to change it just a little and choose 5 students to be "stompers" and they will each have a sign around their neck ("anger" "divorce" "broken trust" etc) and the balloons will symbolize "hope". This will tie into our lesson of the night on hope. How do we maintain hope when the world is trying to stomp it out? -Katie (Jan 8, 2013)

We didn't like this game. Kids ankles and feet got stomped HARD. When done indoors, they liked to trap kids in the corners where it's hard to escape. The balloons kept falling off too. -Dave (Sep 14, 2013)

Quite a waste of resources though.. -Soo Zee (Nov 9, 2013)

This game is easy & very interactive for a large group setting - if done right. I've never experienced the things mentioned in the comments above - I guess my youth are more well behaved than most? Idk. And as far as the game being a "waste of resources" - balloons are meant to be popped. -Corey (Apr 2, 2014)

One of our favorite games. Just don't let them cheat and tie the balloon really close to their ankle. Make a mandatory 8" string rule. -Seth (May 20, 2014)

The kids loved it, They wanted to play it over again. We did not have any problems with kids feet getting stomped. We will play again. Thanks. - (Aug 16, 2015)

I tried this out and the balloons kept popping as they hit sharper blades of grass. - (Jun 29, 2016)
